Kimble
Group -
O-gauge
The period represented by Kimble extends from early BR to steam/diesel transition, demonstrating a wide variety of stock. The town of Kimble is set on a hill, dominated by Knight’s Brewery with its array of industrial buildings, workers’ housing and a private railway with a wagon turntable. Below the town there is a through station, set-back siding and a comprehensive motive power depot with roads leading to the loco shed, coaling/sand/water renewal, storage and turntable. The line runs out of the station to cross an impressive viaduct, with hills, rocky outcrops, pine trees and a tunnel.
Kineton
Group -
N-gauge
Kineton remains under development. The fundamental design requirement was to conform to the fine scale standard where all aspects of the layout are hand built including the track, but with modified track tolerances to facilitate ready to run rolling stock. The quality of models produced by manufactures has improved in recent years and as a result could be utilised without modification to give pleasing results.
Control of the DCC layout is achieved using Model Electronic Railway Group (MERG) and is designed to support full automation in the future. Using MERG items allows the 'hand built' requirement to be satisfied.
The Modules
Group -
OO-gauge
A modern take on building a model railway where members create a single module of their own design but conforming to a standard so that the individual boards can be connected. This approach leads to an interesting spectacle at exhibitions where the individuality means the display will look different every time the boards come together.
Toysleigh
Group -
N-gauge
Toysleigh is currently under construction and the youngest layout that members are developing. The fundamental design requirement was for it to be constructed from 'off the shelf' items easily obtainable from a local modelshop. This includes DCC control using commercially available and accessary control electronics from Megapoints Controllers.
