7mm O gauge layout set in the 1930s in Southwest Wales

Set in South Wales, Aber Emlyn (Welsh for mouth of the Emlyn) forms the terminus of a short branch line connected to the main railway network by a triangular junction. Considerable coal traffic is generated by the colliery located just off the area modelled and there are regular branch and secondary passenger services. A freight train puts in an appearance occasionally.  

Aber Emlyn is largely the work of six members of the Great Yarmouth Model Railway Club, who are also members of Norfolk Mardlers. Assistance and support has been provided by other Club members. The layout has been rebuilt and extended from its original form and is being continually developed.

Constructed to O Gauge finescale standards, the track is in individual 44ft 6in lengths and employs C & L and Exactoscale track parts with GW 2 bolt chairs. All main points have been made to B6, B7 templates using lime sleeper strip and are controlled by slow action point motors or servos. Dummy point locks have been added.

Buildings are mostly representations of actual structures. This applies to the engine shed (Cowbridge), double track GW goods shed (Ross-on-Wye), the houses on an incline (GW), the pub by the canal (Gwent) and several huts. The station building has recently been remodelled using a combination of prototype features. The signals are fully operational as are the ground signals.

The baseboard with the canal and tunnel mouth includes a narrow gauge feeder line and enhanced scenery. Fine detailing is currently taking place. On the visible part of the layout most recently an extension has been added at the terminus end to include part of the town which the station serves. The fiddle yard section is brand new and replaced the original one which had fixed tracks, a flexible entrance track and a turntable.

Locomotives and rolling stock are a mixture of kit and scratchbuilt and are representative of 1930s.. A sequenced timetable is in operation and lasts for about one and a half hours

We run a combination of auto trains/railcars, local passenger, and through passenger trains, local goods trains, and coal trains which arrive empty and return fully loaded.
