It is Spring 1838 and the Camden & Delaware Railroad is operating a full service, both passenger and freight. With the opening of the Camden & Amboy Railroad in December 1831, despite having to cross the Delaware river, by ferry, to Camden; take the Railroad to Perth Amboy, thence another boat to New York City, the inhabitants of Philadelphia had a much shorter journey to New York than by stage coach.
